Description
Chemboys Hexanes are a group of six carbon atoms with the chemical formula C6H14. They are used in agriculture and laboratories to extract oil from crops and other plant materials. Hexanes are also used as a solvent for extracting edible oils from seeds and vegetables, as a special-use fuel, and as a cleaning agent.
The most common hexane is n-hexane, an aliphatic hydrocarbon that is a colorless liquid at room temperature with an odor similar to gasoline. It evaporates easily and has a low flash point (the temperature where it ignites), which makes it useful as a cleaning agent or degreaser. It can be prepared synthetically by reacting benzene with hydrogen.
Uses: Hexanes are used in agriculture to extract oil from crops such as corn, soybeans, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and safflowers.
